I have found that this is a term (hosting) that confuses many people that haven’t ever had their own website. It’s really very simple. We put the website pages we’ve created for you on a computer (web server) that has a permanent connection to the internet. There is software on the web server that hears your customers’ requests for your pages. You make a request every time you click on a link in your web browser or type in a URL (Universal Resource Locator) such as "http://www.charlottecountywebsites.com/hosting-your-website/" (which will bring you to this page). When you do this the request goes to a "Domain Name Server," a computer which turns your request into numbers. The numbers are the specific identifying numbers of our web server. These numbers are called the web server’s IP (Internet Protocol) address which was registered with the domain name server at an annual cost ($35.00 for the DNS server we use).

So you make the request, the DNS computer receives the request and sends it off to the web server along with your computer’s IP address (every computer needs an IP address to function online). Our web server receives the request and your return address and sends the page you requested back to your computer. Your web browser reads the page and turns it into what you see (what you are seeing right now).

24/7

We "Host" your site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. All our plans include world wide display of your website and email service to yourdomain.com.

We removed the messy background, added a saw blade, moved the pins to the proper position for the intended use and added the hose which is what this particular machine is used to cut. The letters are referred to in the text on the site.

Photography once was a very expensive part of advertising. But with the capabilities of digital cameras and digital retouching it is a simple matter to put pleasant, useful photos on your website to show your products to your customers.

We work with the latest Adobe Illustrator, Adobe PhotoShop and Adobe ImageReady to create the highest quality artwork for your site (or for printing your letter head, business cards, etc). Our graphic artist has been working with Adobe software since it was an exciting new innovation in the art world (about 1987).

We have the experience and imagination to do whatever you need. This page shows a few examples of art we created or enhanced to fit this wonderful electronic media.

From these files we created masks in Adobe PhotoShop and used a scan of a piece of wood to fill the masks with the wood grain pattern. A little shading with an electronic airbrush and you have what appears to be a 3 dimensional photo.

Google Pay-Per-Click

The ad above is placed on this page by programming supplied by Google. I don’t know what the ad is for, it is determined by the text on this page in a very complex but very quick calculation at Google. When you load the page Google reads the page content, determines what you are looking at and then places a pertinent ad for you to see. It may be a different ad each time you visit this page.
If you are interested in what the ad is selling and you click on it, I will earn a few pennies. The person or company that has the ad campaign set up with Google will be charged a fee (5 cents too a dollar or two). This is just a part of how the paid ads work at Google. It is among the most inexpensive and effective way ever divised to advertise your company.

Free Advertising with Google

Google also advertises your site in what is commonly referred to as the "Free Listings" or "Search Results." Google attempts to read every page available on the internet, determine the content of each and then show a link to the proper page to anyone that uses Google to perform a search. The goal is to connect the Google user to the one page, of possibly millions, that will satisfy the user’s request.

Not a simple thing to do, but Google is the best. And there are many ways we can help Google achieve it’s goal. The most important is to write the text on your page properly. Using as many important key words and key phrases as possible. But there are many less visible methods; comments, alt tags, meta tags, page titles, linked lists any many more.

We work with Google almost every day. As Google finds better ways to properly direct its users, we update our sites to help them send those interested viewers to our sites. We can usually keep our customers on the first page of Google’s free search results. Here are a few examples (these links will open a new window and perform the search at Google):

Industrial Saw Blades Our customer: www.specialtysaw.com

Manatee Scroll Saw Plans Our customer: www.lackwood.com

You’ll notice this search also results in our customer being listed at the top of the page in the "Product search results" section with links directly to "Froogle" which is Google’s new shopping section.

UV-Curable Chemistry Our customer: www.tangentindinc.com

44HXW-37A Our customer: www.relays-unlimited.com

This is a typical part number for a relay sold by our customer. We have worked extensively with our website and all the part numbers our customer keeps in stock to have them show up in Google searches.

We direct most of our marketing efforts towards Google which is currently the leader in the amount of traffic directed over the internet by search engines. Most of the work we do for Google is also extremely effective for most other search engines. Try any of these searches at Yahoo, for instance. The results will be very similar.

A website is a great advertising tool. It should contain all the things you want to tell your potential customers about your products or services. You can include text, graphics, photographs, and even audio & video if it helps sell. But it won’t help at all if no one ever sees it.

Your site must be found by peopple that are looking to buy what you are offering. The most common way a person looks for what they want on line is a search engine. Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, Ask.com, AltaVista, Excite, etc., etc., etc. They go to their favorite search engine, type in a word or two that describes what they want and click the button. Usually a huge list of websites appears, too huge to ever look through the entire list. So they start at the top and read and click the links that seem closest to their needs. How do you get to the top of that list?

There are many things that need to be correct for a search engine to choose your site to be near the top of that list. We will not reveal them all here because it took years to understand them and we don’t want to make it easier for our competitors to learn what we learned. But here are a few ideas without giving the solutiuons:

Meta Tags

Keywords

Description

Copy

Comments

ALT Tags

Page Titles

These are the most important items that must be properly included on each and every page of your website for search engines to list your site near the top of the appropriate category.

Google handles the majority of on line searches, more than all the others combined (at the time of this writing). We therefore direct all of our marketing efforts towards Google’s standards. This standard is very high and works very well for most other search engines.

Home page of Global-Writes.com

Appearance

Appearance of your website is very important. It should be neat and orderly, drawing attention to your product or service and the qualities that set you apart from your competitors.

But there are things just as important that are often overlooked. Too many photos, graphics or spinning jumping bells and whistles can cause problems for your viewers not the least of which is slow load times. How long do you wait for a slow site to load before going on to the next in the list of your Google search? Not too long I’d guess. So we are always a step our two behind the latest, greatest programming fads. Our sites are compatible with ALL types of computers, systems and browsers while maintaining the quality of appearance that gets your product/service sold.

Navigation Menus

It is extremely important that your viewers can quickly and easily understand and navigate your site. We place very high importance in the way we label and link your sites pages.

Copy Writing for the Internet

We need to explain your product or service in a way that shows your customer why they should choose you. If that takes photos, artwork or animations, that’s what we’ll do. But writing for the web is also about Google and other search engines.

We have been writing advertising copy for more years than I care to say. Clear precise text is extremely important for your customers to understand your product. But writing for the internet is more than just talking to your customers. The right words MUST appear in the text for Google and others to know when to show your site in their search results. We’ve been writing copy with this goal since before Google existed. Remember AOL keywords? Well the internet still works that way but it is much more complicated. We’ll go into more detail about this in the Marketing section of our website.
