Charlotte Harbor -- Trout Creek Saturday, May 19, 2007
I know the video isn't great but it was so interesting to watch these birds in this little cove so close to us. As a group they would take flight, traveling very close together for such big birds. Then immediately, since it was a tiny cove, dive as a group into the water coming up with a mouthful of baitfish. Over and over for the 3 hours we were there. It was like being at a public swimming pool with a bunch of kids climbing out of the shallow end, runninng around to jump into the deep end swimming to the shallow end, etc., etc. Only it wasn't quite as annoying as that sounds.
I did finally hook one when right as I casted they took flight and went right under my airborn line. We slowly reeled him in and tried to get a towel over his head to calm him. You don't want to be bitten by one of these big birds. We managed to get the line free and sent him on his way back to his buddies who had all retreated to a far corner of the cove to watch the excitement.
