I've come up with some methods of caring for my St. Augustine lawn that don't hurt the environment around me.
Lawn Care Organically (as possible)
When we moved into this house in April of 2005 the lawn was pretty much perfect. It was my first St. Augustine lawn so I didn't understand a lot about it. And I've never been one to worry about a having a great lawn so I didn't pay much attention to it. I mowed it when it was too long and there was an automatic RainBird watering system which I left running but feeding and weeding wasn't on my to do list.
Well, those of you that have St. Augustine lawns know that ignoring it is not good. It needs food, help fighting weeds & bugs and water. And I think I've come up with (after 2 years) some methods of caring for my St. Augustine lawn that don't hurt the environment around me.
Chemical Weed Killer
I'm a realist. I occasionally (as infrequently as possible) use some of the weed and feeds from Vigoro or Scotts. If weeds invade your St Augustine lawn it can be devastating. I spot treat areas that start to show dollar weeds or any other small weeds that can't really be hand picked or controlled in any other more friendly manner. I hate doing it but I do when I am losing control.
